Ee aye addio... 'grown men in tears' as Shankly ends 73-year wait

We've won the Cup

ROWN men were crying and it was the greatest feeling any human being could have to see what we had done. There have been many proud moments. Wonderful, fantastic moments. But that was the greatest day," - Bill Shankly

Shankly achieved so much during his 15-year Anfield reign but nothing came close to the ecstasy of that afternoon in the capital.

The FA Cup had always eluded Liverpool.

That 73-year wait to win the most prestigious cup competition in the world had become a source of great angst for Kopites. Evertonians would delight in reminding their neighbours that there was only one club in the city who had lifted the trophy.

But 60 years ago this month those jibes were silenced when captain Ron Yeats led the march up to the Royal Box and accepted the silverware from the Queen.
