According to the results of a poll yesterday, just 7% of those asked said they would "definitely vote for him".
The poor figures come just weeks after Mr Ahern rejoined Fianna Fail after leaving the party more than a decade ago following his resignation after the Mahon tribunal.
Mr Ahern, who was elected as Taoiseach three times, has declined to rule out the possibility of running for presidency.
However, poll results show that a staggering 51% said they would "definitely not vote" for him if he was to run for the role currently filled by Michael D Higgins.
A further 14% said they would "probably not vote for him but it would depend on the other candidates".
Just 7% said they would definitely vote for Mr Ahern.
While 13% said they would "probably vote for him but it would depend on the other candidates".
A further 15%said they didn't know or had no opinion.
Of those who would not vote for him, 34% were Fianna Fail voters.
The next presidential election is due to take place in 2025.
