FLIGHTS to and from Dublin Airport were suspended yesterday after drones were spotted near the runway.

The closure of the airspace around the airport came less than 24 hours after another drone incident near the runway caused flights to be diverted.

Operations at the country’s biggest airport were suspended shortly after 2pm yesterday causing disruption for thousands of travellers.

It is illegal to fly drones within a 5km radius of any airport in Ireland.

A spokesperson for the Dublin Airport Authority said flights were suspended for safety reasons.

The spokesperson said: “Flight operations at Dublin Airport were suspended for safety reasons this afternoon following two confirmed drone sightings on the airfield. The safety and security of  airport users is daa’s key priority at all times and staff at Dublin Airport and
