PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins has paid tribute to CervicalCheck campaigner Lynsey Bennett.
Mr Higgins described the Longford mum-of-two as "an outstanding young woman" on the Aras website.
Lynsey, 34, who died on Thursday, was diagnosed with an invasive form of cervical cancer in 2017. She settled her case against the HSE and others over the alleged misreading of smear slides in 2021.
Speaking outside the Four Courts at the time, she vowed to fight to stay alive for as long as she could. On Friday Cervi-
calCheck whistleblower Vicky Phelan led tributes along with Stephen Teap, whose wife Irene died of the illness.
Mr Higgins, right, said yesterday: "People throughout Ireland will have been deeply saddened to hear of the death of Lynsey Bennett.
"All those who watched or heard interviews with&nbsp;Lynsey will have been struck by what an outstanding young woman Lynsey was, driven by a powerful love for her daughters Zoe and Hailee, and by the strength with which she confronted the challenges which she faced.
"What she had to take on, and did so with such conviction and courage, was and will be to the benefit of all women, and thus to all of us.
