AN infectious disease expert has called for an educational campaign to support people with Long Covid, after some patients were accused of exaggerating their illness.
Consultant at Dublin’s Mater Hospital, Professor Jack Lambert, said there is a belief among some – including in the medical community – that patients reporting the condition are “making it up”.
But Prof Lambert pointed out that brain scans of people with Long Covid show they do in fact have brain inflammation and other symptoms.
The disease expert has called on the Government to provide more resources for people suffering from the illness. He told the Oireachtas health committee that some patients have chronic fatigue syndrome as part of their condition.
He said: “So many patients have been told there’s nothing wrong with them and just to exercise more.
