MET Eireann has issued four weather warnings over the cold snap – putting all of Ireland on alert today.

The Status Yellow snow and ice warnings – amid temperatures as low as -6C – were from 3am this morning and are to last for 35 hours.

Weather modelling patterns predicted snow of between 20mm and 30mm.

The national forecaster said yesterday: “Accumulations of snow are expected in many areas along with icy conditions.”

It warned the snow and ice could cause “hazardous driving conditions, travel disruption, and poor visibility”.
