A GARDA told a court yesterday an “out of control” Catriona Carey screamed at her after she told her her uninsured car would be seized.
The former Irish hockey international was handed a suspended prison sentence for her second offence of driving without a licence or insurance.
Carey, 44, appeared before Kilkenny District Court following a warning in her absence last week that failing to appear would result in a bench warrant being issued.
Defence counsel Kevin Roche said his client admitted driving without insurance and without a driving licence at Weir View, Kilkenny, last December 10.
She also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and without a licence at Glendine, Castlecomer Road, Kilkenny, on November 21 last year.
Garda Julie Chapman told the court she observed a BMW driving at 70kph in a 50kph zone at Glendine, Kilkenny, last November. She stopped the car and spoke to the driver – Carey.
The officer asked Carey – an accountant who also played camogie for Kilkenny – for her licence. She replied she didn’t have it on her but she did have a picture of it on her phone. The garda scanned the licence and it came up she was disqualified and had failed to hand in her licence.
