LOTTO crusader Bernard Durkan is once again taking on the might of the National Lottery.
The Fine Gael TD hit the headlines last year when he slammed an "unwinnable jackpot that had rolled over for most of the summer.
He famously said "tear down those balls" when criticising the excessive number in the drum.
His campaigning with the Mirror and others succeeded in getting Premier Lotteries Ireland to change the rules so the jackpot was easier won.
Now Mr Durkan is challenging the lottery operators again to give punters a fair spin of the wheel after it emerged prizes have fallen by over &euro;100m in the past year.
He told us: "It's clear that when it comes to making a cash cow of the National Lottery: the rollover is over." The sharp drop in prize money last year followed ticket sale revenue deceasing by 13% or &euro;169.6m from &euro;1.053bn to &euro;884.1m.
The drop in ticket sales contributed to the firm's operating profits decreasing by 67.5% to &euro;8.2m.
Durkan said: "Premier Lotteries, got their big payday by making it harder to win, but lost the trust of the lottery playing public who, despite all the expensively produced ads targeted across all media, don't want to play a game they stand no chance of winning.
