Manslaughter verdict in farmyard tragedy trial
Nephew guilty of killing aunt with teleporter

A MAN has been found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter for the killing of his vulnerable aunt who he ran over with a teleporter.

Michael Scott of Portumna, Co Galway, had pleaded not guilty to murdering 76-year-old Chrissie Treacy on April 27, 2018.

He had claimed her death was a tragic accident. The jury of six men and six women took just under 15 hours to reach their verdict that he killed his aunt out of gross negligence when reversing across a yard outside her home.

Scott will be sentenced on June 12. The prosecution case was that the 58-year old deliberately reversed over Ms Treacy following a long-running dispute over land.

Scott’s lawyers said her death was a tragic accident.
