In recent weeks there have been calls to mix the two provinces, and even suggestions that Munster should have more All-Ireland series places, with the belief that the southern province is stronger across the board.

Kilkenny have always flown in the face of that one, taking down the all conquering  Limerick side in 2019,  although they did lose close All-Ireland semifinals battles to Waterford (2020)  and Cork (2021).

“I don’t enter into discussions that are brought about by people who know more than I  do,” said Cody.

“There are geniuses out there who understand exactly the qualities of the various counties. I wouldn’t be capable of analysing it like that.
