Injured GAA ref misses two weeks work after 'manager pitch assault'

A GAA club manager allegedly punched a referee in the back of the head, leaving him out of work for two weeks due to neck injuries, a court heard yesterday.

Glen McManus, 34, a mentor with St Joseph's GAA in Wexford, is accused of assault causing harm to referee Michael Lanigan at the club's grounds at Whiterock Hill in Wexford on September 25, 2022.

The offence carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

McManus, with an address at Cluain Dara, Clonard in Co Wexford, is also accused of assaulting another man, Edward Harding, at the same location on the same date.

That offence carries a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment.
