THERE were plenty of smiles and relief on passengers' faces as they arrived at Dublin Airport yesterday to see no queues - not even in the newly-erected holding area tents.
With more than 300 flights scheduled for the first day of the Bank Holiday weekend exodus, the initial early morning wave of departures ran "very efficiently", according to Dublin Airport Authority.
The airport has been at the centre of a political storm in recent days after last weekend's chaos of lengthy queues extending outside the terminals causing around 1,400 passengers to miss their flights.
There were concerns that a similar strain may have been put on the system this weekend.
However, the debacle prompted DAA to introduce measures ahead of the busy June bank holiday which saw 52,000 passengers fly out of the country's busiest airport yesterday.
A further 45,000 are expected to depart today, 48,000 on Sunday and 52,000 on Monday.
