PATRICK HORGAN believes he was “unfairly treated” last year.

And the 34-year-old goes as far as to say the year was “a failure before it kind of even happened”.

The Championship’s all-time top scorer was dropped for the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final encounter with Antrim and benched again as Cork crashed out against Galway.

Kieran Kingston’s rebels hit 12 first-half wides that day, including a series of missed frees before dead ball ace Horgan was called into action at half-time.

He slotted over four points, including two frees and a 65, but it wasn’t enough as Henry Shefflin’s Tribe clung on for a one-point win to set up an All-Ireland semi-final date with Limerick.

Kingson decided to leave the post at the end of the season with double All-Ireland-winning U20 boss Pat Ryan taking over.
