AUTHOR Salman Rushdie is "feisty and defiant" after the stab attack that left him fighting for his life, his son has revealed.
The 75-year-old author was knifed on stage at a literary event on Friday.
Zafar Rushdie, 42, yesterday revealed that his dad remained in a critical condition and was "receiving extensive ongoing medical treatment".
"Though his life-changing injuries are severe, his usual feisty and defiant sense of humour remains intact, he added.
"We are so grateful to all the audience members who bravely leapt to his defence and administered first aid along with the police, doctors who have cared for him and for the outpouring of love and support from around the world".
Salman was stabbed about 12 times, in Chautauqua, western New York including in the face and neck, the county District Attorney's Office said.
