A DAD who shut his butcher’s counter to watch his daughter play football said yesterday: “My family come first and always will.”

GAA referee Keith Sheerin put up a notice explaining why he was closing in the middle of the day – and ended up going viral on social media.

The notice at Keith Meat’s store at Wilkinstown, Navan, Co Meath, on Tuesday said: “Counter closed between 11.45-1.45pm due to my kid’s football game.

“Sorry for the inconvenience. Some things are more important than work.”

The poster was shared thousands of times across social media with messages of support for the dad-of- three.

Comments on the post included: “Perfectly said Keith, time to smell the roses,” and “Brilliant and I would say your daughter was delighted you were there” while another stated: “It’s the little things in life that are a massive thing to them. Good on ya”.
