Traffic crawls at India Gate amid I-Day rush
Hindustan Times|August 16, 2022
Traffic was thrown into chaos around the India Gate C-Hexagon on Monday, especially by afternoon, as thousands of people took advantage of the extended weekend and the pleasant weather to flock to the historic monument to celebrate the 75th Independence Day with their families and friends.

Traffic crawls at India Gate amid I-Day rush

NEW DELHI: Although it was a floating crowd, the Delhi Traffic Police said over 3,000 people were present at the C-Hexagon at given point of time in the afternoon.

The police estimated that the footfall around India Gate on the day was around 500,000 people, which they said, brought vehicular movement to a standstill on the India Gate circle road and on most of the connecting roads, especially Tilak Marg and Sher Shah Road, used by people travelling from north and east Delhi.

Unlike previous years, when most of the visitors spilled over to the India Gate lawns, thereby freeing up the roads and easing the traffic flow around the C-Hexagon, on Monday people could not move towards the lawns as they remained out of bounds for the public on account of the ongoing work on the Central Vista Avenue, traffic police officers said.
