MCD sets Dec 31 deadline for getting property 'code'

The assessment and collection department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has set December 31 as the deadline for all property owners get registered with the civic body by initiating the process of getting their Unique Properties Identification Code (UPIC).
In a public notice issued on Sunday, the property tax department has said that it will initiate prosecutions in the courts against owners of properties which are not registered with the civic body. Delhi is estimated to have more than 3.5 million buildings but only 1.5 million are registered with the corporation. Only 1.3 million of the registered owners pay property tax, according to MCD officials.
The UPIC enables the civic body to track the total number of properties and check if they are under the property tax net or not. UPIC, the 15-digit alphanumeric code, which is mandatory to pay property tax, can be generated on mcdonline.nic.in/portal.
