The wrestling officials met president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is under investigation following allegations of sexual harassment and autocratic running of the body by the country's top wrestlers. "It was just a courtesy meeting with the WFI chief... We have discussed further course of action, including a legal battle. We are... ready to fight against false allegations and conspiracy against WFI," a WFI official said on condition of anonymity. WFI secretary general VN Prasood, when contacted, said: "The government has decided to form a committee to look into the allegations... We will co-operate and obey whatever directions come from the government." Union sports minister Anurag Thakur told reporters in Kolkata on Sunday: "Assistant secretary WFI was sacked and an oversight committee will begin an impartial probe so that everything gets clear."
GONDA/NEW DELHI: Top officials of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) were left to hold an informal "closed door" meeting in Gonda on Sunday after the union sports ministry's directive to stop all its activities forced a planned extraordinary annual general meeting to be called off.
The wrestling officials met with president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is under investigation following allegations of sexual harassment and autocratic running of the federation by the country's top wrestlers led by Olympians Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat.
