The Uttarakhand Forest Department recently announced that it is gearing up to offer unique trekking experiences to travellers, starting April. As many as 15 routes have been identified in the state's lesser-known dense forests and visitors will be allowed to choose trails based on the duration of their stay.
"We are looking at destination development, that is to put India on a higher pedestal of ecotourism, balancing out factors such as sustainability, social development and conservation goals," says colonel Ashvini Pundir, additional chief executive officer, Adventure Wing, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board.
