No team has gone to India and won a Test series in over a decade. Only two - Australia in 2017, and England in 2021- have managed a Test victory since 2013.
The combination of India's exceptional quality with bat and ball across majority of that period, and the inherent threat of wildly unfamiliar conditions for non-Asian sides, has made the prospect of an Indian Test tour the most daunting challenge in modern cricket. Add to that the vast gulf in resource and influence which separates India from the rest - it is smaller for Australia and England - and you could easily make the case that no visiting side will ever win a Test series in India again.
For years, Australia had a similarly weighty record at the Gabba. Since losing to the West Indies in 1988, Australia played 31 Brisbane Tests without defeat, a stretch of over three decades coming to a famous end when India sealed victory, in both the game and the series, in 2021.
