G20 communique says today's era not of war

LEADERS OF THE G20 nations on Wednesday pushed for an immediate cessation of conflict in Ukraine and asserted that "today's era must not be of war", echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message to Russian President Vladimir Putin in September.

New Delhi, November 16

"The peaceful resolution of conflicts, efforts to address crises, as well as diplomacy and dialogue, are vital. Today's era must not be of war," said a communique following a two-day summit of the G20 grouping in Bali.

At the end of the joint declaration, Indonesia also handed over the G20 presidency to India for the coming year. "Together with every country's effort, we can make the G20 summit a catalyst for global welfare," Modi said, as he received the honour of presidency from Indonesian President Joko Widodo at a brief ceremony.

MODI PLEDGED that India's presidency will be "inclusive" and a voice of developing countries.

The next G20 summit will be held in New Delhi on September 9-10."We look forward to meeting again in India in 2023, in Brazil in 2024 and in South Africa in 2025," the G20 Bali Leaders' Declaration said.
