RISHI Sunak&rsquo;s Government has refused to hand over Bozo Johnson&rsquo;s unredacted WhatsApp messages, diaries and personal notebooks to the Covid inquiry.&nbsp;
Yesterday&rsquo;s 4pm extended deadline for the Cabinet Office to disclose the documents passed and the Government will now fight a legal battle.
The Cabinet Office said it was seeking a judicial review of inquiry chairwoman Baroness Hallett&rsquo;s order, arguing that it should not have to hand over material which is &ldquo;unambiguously irrelevant&rdquo;.
In a letter to the inquiry, the Cabinet Office said it had provided &ldquo;as much relevant information as possible, and as quickly as possible&rdquo; in line with the order.
But the letter, released after the deadline, added: &ldquo;The Cabinet Office has today sought leave to bring a judicial&nbsp;review.
We do so with regret and with an assurance that we will&nbsp;continue to cooperate fully with the inquiry.&rdquo;
It added: &ldquo;The request for unambiguously irrelevant material goes beyond the powers of the inquiry.&rdquo;
