The opening of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 by Howard Carter resulted in a string of deaths among the people involved in the excavation. Four, including the man who funded the excavation, died between four months and 16 years later.
Many believe a curse was placed on the site to stop anyone from digging out the rest of the hidden tombs.
However a new study claims there may be a much less spooky explanation.
Research from the Journal of Scientific Exploration has revealed many ancient tombs scattered around Egypt are filled with enough radioactivity to cause cancer and radiation sickness.

And those who built them may have been aware of it too.
The report said the tombs were "intensely radioactive," adding: "The nature of the curse was explicitly inscribed on some tombs, with one translated presciently as, "They that break this tomb shall meet death by a disease that no doctor can diagnose."
The source of the radiation is believed to come from the bedrock on which the site in Giza was built, which may have contained elements that decay over time to produce radon.
