BOFFINS believe they have found evidence of EIGHT alien civilisations.
Scientists deployed a new hi-tech method to analyse 480 hours of data collected from 820 stars by one of the world's largest telescopes.
AI was used to identify eight signals that scientists say were caused by communications technology from alien civilisations.
But they do not expect to be shaking hands with ET any time soon.
The data analysed was collected in 2016 by the 100-metre Robert C Byrd Green Bank Telescope in the US, and the stars involved have gone quiet.
They are now being monitored in the hope of finding further signs of life.
The bombshell was revealed by mathematician and physicist Peter Ma, from the University of Toronto.
He said in the journal Nature Astronomy that nearly three million of the signals picked up were discarded as Earth-based interference. But the team was left&nbsp;with eight ET candidates. He said they were "drifting signals originating from some extraterrestrial source."&nbsp;
Franck Marchis, a planetary astronomer at SETI- the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence - Institute in California, said it signals a "new era" for alien research.
