THE National Cyber Security Centre faces questions after telling visitors they could open internal doors with the passcode 1234.
Delegates attending a speech by Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron were stunned after being issued with the simple password on arrival at the organisation's high-tech London HQ.
The centre was established as part of the nation's GCHQ intelligence agency in 2016 to advise on toughening defences against hacking.
As part of its remit it issues advice on devising complex passwords to defeat hackers.
Its recent guidance warned against using codes that contained a "run of numbers".
It said: "Research shows that weak&nbsp;passwords often contain names, places or a run of numbers.
"The more complex a password is the more secure it becomes."
The agency's website also contains a list of 100,000 common passwords that should be avoided and "changed immediately" if they are still in use.&nbsp;Number 15 on the list is 1234.
But a Whitehall source insisted the agency had "robust and in-depth security measures in place at its headquarters".
The National Cyber Security Centre declined to comment.
