TOURISTS will have to cough up to visit Manchester due to a new "visitor tax".
It is the first UK city to introduce the scheme, where guests at city centre hotels will be forced to pay an extra &pound;1 a night, per room.
Around 74 hotels and guest houses have signed up for the plan, which starts on Saturday.
The new tax is expected to make &pound;3million a year and will help fund the Manchester Accommodation Business Improvement District.
Annie Brown, chairman of ABID, said: "When you compare it to European cities that have had taxes and visitor levies for a number of years, it's a small amount." The group will use the cash to boost attractions and keep the city clean. A&nbsp;tourist tax has been enforced abroad for years in places such as Barcelona, Venice, Valencia and Paris.
