IT’S TOUGH BEING A TOAD ON THE ROAD
Pond strife

1 Toads differ from most frogs because they have dry brownish skin, warts and crests behind the eyes. Frogs have smooth, wet-looking yellow to brown skin.

2 The critters can be found almost everywhere on the planet and there are around 350 species, but while they're born in water, toads live on land. A group is called a knot.

3 poison Many breeds have behind their eyes, in the parotoid gland, which can be used to fend off predators. In winter, they hibernate underground.

4 When they shed their skin, toads often eat it to prevent attackers following their trail.

5 Unlike frogs who jump, toads prefer to walk or crawl around as they have shorter, weaker legs and they don't have webbed feet.

6 When they're out seeking a male toads make mate, a singing sound to entice females into breeding with them.
