HIGHWAYS bosses have been left mystified after an unknown pothole hero filled a cratered road.
The phantom pothole-filler carried out the work in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, without the council's consent.
Cornwall Highways is now asking for information about the identity of the repairer, who used concrete to fix the hole.
The road, which had been closed last month, was unofficially opened by the secret repairer - before workers for the council closed it again.
Cormac, Cornwall Council's roads repair company, says it does not intend to mend it again before dealing with a backlog of repairs.
Colin Martin, Liberal councillor, said: Democrat "The latest is that the road has been closed and will remain closed until it is 'properly' repaired by Cormac.
"But they say this could be&nbsp;Cornwall weeks away." Highways confirmed the repair was not carried out by one of its team.
A manager wrote: "If information regarding who carried out the works becomes known in the community, I would be grateful if details could be shared."&nbsp;
