MCDONALD'S has joined a nationwide drive to recruitment hire more middle-aged people.
The fast-food giant is one of a number of firms keen to prove they do not discriminate against older people.
Recent job ads feature a grey-haired worker who "isn't the retiring type"
And a McDonald's spokesman said: "We have a long history of employing older workers."
Andy Briggs, the boss of insurance giant Phoenix Group, said too many recruitment campaigns used photos of "attractive young people"
He added: "There's still significant age bias in recruitment." Mr. Briggs made the Government's business champion for older workers in 2017.
It comes days after John Lewis boss Dame Sharon White urged over-50s who retired during Covid to rejoin the workforce.
Last year there were 180,000 fewer over-50s in work than before the pandemic, according to the Office for National Statistics. In September 2021 there were 362,000 unemployed over50s and 3.5million "economically inactive" 50- to 64-year-olds.
Studies show older people are less likely to get an interview than younger jobseekers with less experience.
