BRITS could be told to slash their power use this winter to avoid blackouts.

Emergency plans for gas and electricity supply shortages amid the war with Ukraine include appeals to the public to switch off lights and turn down thermostats.

The National Grid is said to have already held meetings with representatives from energy-intensive industries in a bid to avoid blackouts.
