JIMMY Carr regards his live stand-up gigs as his "retirement fund" because he fears he will be axed from TV.
The comedian, 50, said he feels fortunate he has been able to perform on stage around the world and present telly shows, including Channel 4's 8 Out Of 10 Cats.
But the funnyman, inset, said: "Someone at the TV channel will one day go, 'He's too old, I'm bored of him, we're going to get someone new in "And live, hopefully if you've done a good job for people over the years, they will come back and see you.
"So that's the one, that is the retirement fund, the live.
"Stand-up is really the main job.&nbsp;Stand-up is everything. TV stuff is gravy.&nbsp;Because ultimately, someone else makes the decision on that."
He added he doesn't believe there should be any off-limit topics in comedy because making jokes about something is "a way of processing" that helps people get over an issue.
Carr's comments come after he was widely slammed in February last year when he joked about the Holocaust in his Netflix TV special.
Channel 4 refused to "cancel" Carr amid the uproar and signed up the comic for a second series of his game show I Literally Just Told You.
The comedian is currently touring New Zealand with his Terribly Funny comedy show.
