BRITAIN is seeing a flea boom as thousands seek advice on how to get rid of the pests.
Nearly 10,000 people have taken to Google within the last month for tips on how to zap them.
The finger of blame is being pointed at our cats and dogs, according to Pet Drugs Online.
Sarah Page-Jones, consultant veterinary surgeon, said fleas are carried into our homes by dogs, cats, and other furry pets.
She added: "Not only can fleas cause discomfort to&nbsp;your pet in the form of itching, excessive biting, sores and hair loss, but they can also bite family members." She is urging pet owners to be alert to the rise in fleas and vacuum regularly to avoid infestations.
Sarah says keeping on top of housework is important. She said: "Hoover at least once a day, including any hard-to-reach places. Empty the Hoover outside your home, preventing any more fleas from hatching indoors."
Using an effective flea treatment on your pet, a household spray and washing bedding at 60-degrees or higher to kill larvae were also advised.
The advice comes as bed bug incidents have doubled in the past year, according to Rentokil Pest Control research.
