GARY Glitter is today back in prison just 39 days after he was set free.
The disgraced pop star, 78, was recalled after a probe into his smartphone use.
Glitter left his bail hostel under a blanket as he was escorted on his return to jail.
It is just a month since he was freed half-way through a 16-year sentence for sexually abusing girls under the age of 13.
Justice Secretary Dominic Raab is set to demand an investigation into the events.
A local source said: "Glitter hasn't left the hostel since he was released - he's even had other convicts do his shopping.
"But now he has been sent back to prison for breaching his licence." A Probation Service spokesman said: "We set tough licence conditions and when offenders breach them, we don't hesitate to return them to custody."
