GARLIC has been crowned the UK's favourite cooking ingredient beating cheese, bacon and pasta.
It appeared in most of our top dishes including garlic bread, roast potatoes, curry and spaghetti bolognese.
Olive oil was the second-most popular ingredient, followed by carrots, nutrition experts Bulk.com found.
A spokesman said: "Some of us may have also resolved&nbsp;to cook more of our own food this year to save money or improve our eating habits, so it's great to see some very cheap and nutritious yet tasty ingredients in the Top 10.
"Brits who are restricting their diet in some way whether that's to achieve fitness goals or otherwise don't have to miss out on the top-rated dishes either.
"As long as you have the staple flavours and components, such as garlic, you can sub out your main for higher-protein or lower-calorie alternatives."
The health benefits of&nbsp;eating garlic include better digestion, lower cholesterol, and a better immune system and skin. But it does cause "garlic breath" the next morning.
The second-most popular ingredient was olive oil used for frying foods and as a standalone ingredient.
Carrots came a surprising third. It is often grated in salads and boiled in stews and soups.
The fourth favourite ingredient was cheese, followed by onions.
