A PUBLICITY-shy bloke and his ex-actress wife have sparked calls for a probe into royal rental rules.
They are being slated for saving up to &pound;690,000 by striking a deal with Buckingham Palace to pay no further rent on their Frogmore Cottage home after they refunded the &pound;2.4million taxpayers paid for its refurbishment.
Palace officials confirmed the lump-sum payment wiped out the couple's rental obligations on the five-bed&nbsp;pad on the Windsor estate.
It means the couple, who fled Britain to seek privacy in showbiz capital LA, may have saved up to &pound;690,000. They will not renew their lease when it ends later this month.
Ex-Lib Dem MP Norman Baker is now demanding to know how many other royal family properties are rented out below the market rate. He said: "It is outrageous (they) should be able to live in a huge house on these terms while regular people struggle to put food on the table."
The royal household has said it is "committed to making royal finances as transparent as possible".
