FORMER England footballer Carlton Palmer finished a half marathon despite suffering a heart attack in the first mile.
The ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United ace was taking part in the race with wife Lucy Kirkby-Palmer.
Carlton, who was fundraising for charity, complained of heart problems in the first mile.
After completing the 13.1mile run in Sheffield, Carlton was rushed to hospital, where he was kept overnight and underwent medical tests.
The former midfielder yesterday updated his fans on Twitter saying: "Just to let everyone know I am ok, being kept in overnight in hospital observation/tests heart played up again in the first mile but I managed to complete the course.
"Congratulations to my gorgeous wife for going sub two hours love you." On another update he revealed his surprise heart attack diagnosis.
He said: "Thank you so much for all the lovely messages I have been kept in hospital with a suspected small heart attack, they&nbsp;want to find out what has caused this problem so tests are ongoing!"
Palmer, 57, managed to finish in two hours, nine minutes and 21 seconds although his heart rate rose to a dangerous 232 beats per minute.
