POLICE forces have made millions by flogging goods seized from crooks on eBay.
The haul of ill-gotten gains sold includes designer watches, jewellery, and even gold bars.
Since 2017, Sussex, Leicestershire, Thames Valley, and Cheshire Police have made more than &pound;2.6 million by selling luxury goods seized from criminals or confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Act. The most cash raised by a single sale was &pound;38,300 for a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date Rose Gold watch.
A spokesman for the Sussex force said: &ldquo;The proceeds go to the Police Property Act Fund, which supports local charitable organisations carrying out community projects, as well as the running costs of the evidence store.
&ldquo;It also provides cost savings, as the items would otherwise have to be disposed of under regulations."
David Spencer of the Centre of Crime Prevention added: "It is absolutely right that criminals should not be allowed to e profit from their crimes.
"This should send out a message to all criminals that your crimes won't pay."
