Charity says it gave 40,000 packs in six months to people with children

SURGING demand has led to the busiest period ever recorded at food banks run by the Trussell Trust.

About 116,000 emergency food parcels were distributed to people in Scotland between April and September.

That's a 34 per cent increase on the same period last year, with 40,000 benefiting children, which is up 29 per cent.

The Trussell Trust, a food bank charity network, said that's the most parcels it has ever needed to distribute to households with children.
