MILLIONS of patients could be given a new weight loss jab found to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

The biggest clinical trial of its kind is being hailed as significant as the development of statins.

It found the jabs which help people feel full also lower the risk of heart attack, stroke or death by 20 per cent.

Previous trials have focused on obese people and have shown dramatic weight loss but this three-year study also offered the drug Wegovy to people mildly overweight but with cardiovascular disease.

Users showed heart benefits even if they didn't lose weight and researchers believe the vascular wall may be strengthened by the drug. The
