Trump felony charge over classified docs

DONALD Trump is due in court next week after the former US President was charged over his handling of classified papers after leaving the White House.

The 76-year-old, who is making a bid for a return to the Oval Office, faces seven charges about key files found at his Florida home.

He is the first ex-US President to face federal charges and if convicted could be jailed for up to 10 years.

The charges relate to classified files seized by the FBI at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida last year. Some 11,000 documents were found, including about 100 marked confidential, secret or top secret.

It is against US law for federal officials, including presidents, to remove or keep classified files.
