WORLD TRIBUTES AS DAME OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN DIES AT AGE OF 73
SHE was the sweet high school student Sandy Olsson who won the heart of bad boy Danny Zuko in the career-defining and still adored 1978 musical Grease.
That incredible performance and her on-screen chemistry with co-star John Travolta left generations of fans hopelessly devoted to her talents.
And in later life Dame Olivia Newton-John won even more hearts and admiration as she became an advocate for breast cancer awareness.
Yesterday her family announced the devastating news that the British-born star had passed away peacefully at the age of 73 at her ranch in Southern California, surrounded by loved ones.
Her husband John Easterling wrote on Instagram: "We ask that everyone please respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time.
"Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer."
John Travolta last night posted a heartfelt message on social media, writing: "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again.
"Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!"
Dame Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 at the age of 43 and had a partial mastectomy and reconstruction.
She remained cancer-free until 2013, and in September 2017, she revealed the disease had spread to her lower back, causing a fracture.
Speaking in 2019, Dame Olivia told how she had to learn to walk again after being confined to a wheelchair.
