SNOW GO

SCOTLAND could be brought to a standstill in the coming days as forecasters have predicted a possible 16 inches of snow through today and tomorrow.

After a second day of snowfall yesterday, the Met Office has issued a fresh weather warning for the rest of the week.

The alert for snow and ice covers the north-east and is in effect 6pm to 10am tomorrow.

The forecaster has warned of "very challenging conditions" today and tomorrow. Scots are being asked to "urgently review" travel plans as accompanying winds may cause blizzards.

A separate weather alert covering much of Scotland, which is set to begin at 3am today, warns of a staggering 40cm, or 16 inches of snowfall until Friday at 6pm.

Weather maps show how the bone-chilling Arctic air brought about a cold start to yesterday morning.
