Hat-trick hero George leaves United on their knees but glory goal was down to tiredness

MORTON hat-trick hero George Oakley admitted he was knackered but had just enough in the tank to leave Dundee United shattered.

The striker had hit a first-half double that was cancelled out by goals from Kai Fotheringham and Louis Moult.

Oakley got a chance in the final minute and said he was running on empty and just decided to let fly as he netted his long-range screamer to cap the win and his perfect treble.

Oakley said: "People were asking if it was better than the one I scored against Aberdeen years ago for Hamilton.

"If you don't shoot you don't win the raffle. I had a go. I was absolutely shattered and thought why not have a go and it's gone straight in the top corner.

"That was my first senior hat-trick I've always been close but that was my first one. There's no better way to do it than by getting the perfect hat-trick.

"It was nice to score those goals and to win the game, that was the most important thing.

The Cappielow side started the season strongly before their form dropped off a cliff. Dougie Imrie has now got them back on track with seven games unbeaten and eight in all competitions.
