PILOT 'TOLD WIFE PLANE WAS BROKEN'

A FORMER RAF pilot who was killed after he ejected from a fighter jet was told the aircraft was "broken" days before the tragedy.

David Ashley, 49, died while carrying out a familiarisation flight of a £25million M346 fighter attack aircraft - built by Leonardo SpA - over the Italian Alps on March 16.

His widow Heather, originally from Prestwick, said her husband had received a voicemail from pilot Giampaolo Goattin, who was due to take him on the training flight.
