Try adding herbs such as rosemary to your steaks or burgers.

They could reduce levels of cancer-causing compounds that build up in the meat when it’s cooked, according to Kansas State University scientists.

Get your oats 

Putting a handful of blueberries on top could up your porridge’s cholesterol-lowering benefits, a study published in the Journal of Nutrition found. 

Complimentary beverage 

If you’re planning a hearty fish supper, you now have the perfect excuse to enjoy a glass of wine on the side.

An Italian study found it may increase the levels of absorption of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fish like salmon.

Neutralise niffs 

Worried your breath might be smelly after eating garlic? Have an apple.

Researchers from Ohio State University found enzymes in the fruit could neutralise the effects of garlic’s sulphuric compounds.

Fruit boost 

Drinking orange juice alongside iron-rich foods such as spinach can increase the absorption of the fatiguefighting mineral as much as four times.
