MILLIONS of people could lose up to &pound;10,000 each if plans to increase the state pension age to 68 are brought forward.
Tory Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride told MPs the "pretty hairy" state of the public finances could delay the age people can claim their pensions.
The pension age will go up to 68 by 2039. But it is thought it could kick in as early as 2033, affecting those now aged 51 to 57.
Stride said: "There are various moving parts in assessing where we should go with the state pension age. One of them is life expectancy...what proportion of your life should we expect people to have in retirement." He said findings would be made public in the New Year but before May.
