RAIL passengers have been warned to brace themselves for "severe disruption" today as drivers at nine train companies go on strike.
About 6500 members of the Aslef union will stage a 24-hour walkout in a dispute over pay.
It comes amid a&nbsp;"summer of discontent" in the public and private sectors.
One of the operators hit is Avanti West Coast, whose scrapped services will impact travellers to London, Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland.
Steve Montgomery, chair of the Rail Delivery Group which is in charge of the country's railways, said: "The Aslef leadership has, for the second time in as many weeks, decided to impose yet more uncertainty for passengers and businesses by disrupting passengers' weekend plans."
