Rangers legend's boy told mum he was insured to drive car that hit pedestrian

- JAMES MULHOLLAND

McCOIST: MY SON'S CAR CRASHLIE

I told him he wasn't legally entitled to drive the car and took keys off him.

RANGERS legend Ally McCoist told a court his son “lied” about being insured to drive a car which later struck a pedestrian and left him with a life-changing brain injury.

Ally, 60, repeatedly warned Argyll, 22, in 2016 that he wasn’t legally entitled to drive an Audi A1 because he didn’t have insurance.

But the Court of Session was told Argyll had lied to his mum – and Ally’s ex-wife – Allison by telling her he was insured to drive the vehicle before it struck Stephan Murdoch in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, in December 2016.

Both Ally and Argyll are being sued by Aviva for £240,000 over a payout to Stephan. Both contest the action.

The court heard how a policy covering Argyll for the car had been cancelled in March 2016 after his insurer More Than learned he had been “speeding dangerously”.

Ally said he took keys for the car from Argyll and repeatedly told him he wasn’t legally entitled to continue driving the vehicle.

The former Scotland star also said he sent emails to Argyll and Allison saying his son couldn’t drive the car.
