THE first Scot to play Star Trek character Scotty has been cast.
Martin Quinn, from Paisley, will take on the role for the first time in the season 2 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
The 27-year-old previously played "wee cousin" Rob in Derry Girls and had a part in film Our Ladies.
He is the third actor to take on the iconic role.&nbsp;James Doohan played Scotty in the original series and all the classic films, and Simon Pegg played him in three reboot movies between 2009 and 2016.
Canadian Doohan was&nbsp;notorious for his corny Scottish accent and fans are looking forward to hearing the real thing.
Fun Loving Geek messaged Martin on X, formerly known as Twitter, posting: "Congratulations Martin on stepping into&nbsp;the iconic 'shoes' of Montgomery Scott. This will change your life forever.
"Well done, you played the part well. And fantastic to see a real Scot doing it rather than some actor with a dodgy accent." Liam Dillon told him: "Congrats. You nailed it, Martin. Derry Girls knew what they were doing.
As well as appearing in the finale of season 2, Martin is confirmed as appearing in at least the opening episode of season 3.
Fans will need to stick around to see if he will become a permanent member of the crew.
