Leaking stories? I was joking

IN ANOTHER dramatic day in the Wagatha Christie libel case, Rebekah Vardy was accused of leaking stories about big stars to the Press.

But after it was alleged that she told her agent to divulge that a celeb was cheating on her husband, Vardy said she had been “joking”.

Giving evidence on the second day of the trial, she was asked about messages between her and her agent Caroline Watt about a fling between a "well-known celebrity”, referred to as Mrs F, and a footballer, referred to as Mr G.

Coleen Rooney's barrister David Sherborne told the High Court that Vardy texted her agent: “Omg have you seen how badly Mrs F is behaving ... I'm actually disgusted by her.

The court heard a further message from Vardy said: “Leak the story about her shagging G behind her husband's] back” Asked about the remarks, she said: “I was just joking Mr Sherborne replied:

"Ms Watt doesn't think you're just joking when you say that” The court was also told Vardy had informed her agent that she "wanted paying” for information about Chelsea footballer Danny Drinkwater leaving police custody after crashing his car in 2019.

Drinkwater, who used to play for Leicester City with Vardy's husband, Jamie, was later banned from the road for 20 months and ordered to do 70 hours of community service after admitting drink driving.

Reading texts between Vardy and Watt, Mr Sherborne told the court in Central London: “You say, 'He's only just been let out of the cells last night', and then said you wanted paying for this.

“To which she said, 'Which police station? They will need to confirm with the police station before they write it'.

“The 'they' she's referring to is The Sun, isn't it?"
